The laboratory of Experimental Endocrinology has been founded in 1987 by Professor Elias Castanas and
is part of the Department of Laboratory Medicine, School of Medicine , University of Crete (http://www.med.uoc.gr/).
Our team comprises of
Professor Elias Castanas (Head), Dr Marilena Kampa (Assistant
Professor) and Dr George Notas (Lecturer) Dr Ismini Alexaki ( research
associate), PhD and undergraduate students (recruited by the School of
Medicine, the Department of Biology, and the Department of Material
Science and Technology of the University of Crete).
Our research focuses on
the study of a) Neuropeptide, natural agents (polyphenols) and steroid
actions (with special interest on membrane-acting steroids) in hormone
sensitive tumors such as breast and prostate cancer,hepatocellular
carcinoma and neuroendocrine tumors b) inflammation in cancer and c)
adipose derived stem cells and organotypic skin cultures.
Additionally, the Laboratory is responsible for the
Endocrinology-Immunology-Cancer Biology diagnostic Unit of the
University Hospital.
